If you live in Sydney and you read this blog, then I suggest you join the “Sydney semantic web group” and come to our meet-ups.

Sydney didn’t have a monthly SemWeb event so I started one up with the support of some energetic and sharp colleagues. We have started accumulating members and we hope to welcome many more. The OpenCalais initiative’s Krista Thomas is a member and we hope to talk about their technology a whole lot more.

From where I’m standing I see a clear gap between science and business. I’m standing in the shoes of someone who has researched, lived and breathed the semantic web for a few years now and these same shoes were used to walk the path of the business world. The meet-ups are aimed at:

    * Researchers in computing – “How can I solve the problems of the data and the web?”
    * Marketers - “How can I improve visibility of my brand/product/service”
    * Developers – “How do I build in this type of technology?”
    * Business owners – “How can I gain ROI from this?”
    * The curious – “What on earth is this thing?”

We aim to answer all of those questions and more, as a collective group. The desired outcomes might involve:

    * Researchers – “I’ve discovered a new way of applying our learnings”
    * Marketers – “I’ve understood how I can leverage this technology for my clients”
    * Developers – “I can see that we need a new tool here”
    * Business owners – “I understand why this is important now”
    * The curious – “Wow, this is wicked cooool!”

If you would don’t live in Sydney but you would like to showcase some tools, talk about some technology or raise awareness around something, let me know and we’ll work something out. If you are passing through Sydney and can come along just this once, we’d be happy to welcome you.

If you live in Sydney and you’re reading this, see you on the 30th of march. Oh…and there will be Gummy Bears, yummy things and so on…not that you need any bribing icon smile Sydney Semantic Web Group
