By Shereen Jegtvig, About.com Guide   July 9, 2011

People who eat a Mediterranean diet tend to have a lower incidence of diseases like heart disease and cancer. This type of diet is high in fats and oils, but they are healthy fats and oils. Lots of polyunsaturated fats from fish, nuts and vegetables, monounsaturated fats from olive oil, but very little saturated fat because there isn't much red meat eaten on the Mediterranean diet.

You can learn more about the Mediterranean diet and some easy tips for changing your diet to a Mediterranean Diet.
