Winter Wonderland

January 13, 2012

Winter white is one of my favorite colors. It’s a fashion law-breaker, decidedly unexpected when there’s even the possibility of a dusting of snow on the ground, and it just sounds romantic, doesn’t it?

Did I tell you that I’m traveling to the States for Alt Summit next week? I’m a founder of the conference and responsible for all the panels and speakers. It’s a big job, but I love it! I look forward to this few days of jam-packed inspiration all year. This time, we’re hosting a White Party. The French call it Diner en Blanc, which makes it sound even more enchanting. Sean Combs has hosted one for years in the Hamptons, and is renowned for not allowing entry to those whose attire isn’t white enough. If you’re coming to Alt, please don’t stress; we won’t be turning anyone away!

I’ve heard outfit plans ranging from white denim to wedding dress (it’s fun to watch the chatter on Twitter), and I can’t wait to see how a ballroom-full of creatives will interpret our theme. How about you? Do party themes make your outfit options easier or more difficult? And have you ever ignored the suggested dress code? Do tell!

White inspiration found here.

P.S. Kelly has graciously put together another packing list for Alt attendees. Last year’s version was a life-saver for so many of us while stuffing our suitcases!

All of the talk about Alt Summit is so exciting! Although I’m not going, I’m looking forward to reading all about it after!

I think party themes makes our life easier because at least you know what type of dress to wear. This Diner en Blanc idea is great and the dress is truly beautiful. Have a wonderful trip and enjoy every minute of it :)

Man oh man, I want to got Alt! Congrats on the book deal, I will buy anything you write! It would actually be nice to have a hard copy of you–not to sound creepy.

Enjoy your trip to the States!

Not to be annoying but winter white, is more of a cream color. I love the white party theme. I would totally observe, but none of my friends would appreciate.

I love themed events. I think the specificity gives me an opportunity to focus. I tend to be very indecisive and limited options is helpful. And white is very romantic. I just wish it was as flattering on my body as black. :-)

I loved the white dinner idea because it pushed me out of my comfort zone. I ended up buying a dress I would normally have passed by (or bought in black) and I cannot WAIT to wear it.

I also cannot wait to see YOU!!!

I was a little worried that I wouldn’t find anything to wear but I did! I even had a few different ones to choose from. Very excited and a little nervous to attend my very first blog conference thingy! Can’t believe it’s next week!!!

I love party themes when I have the money to go out and get something! This one is going to be harder, because I don’t have a lot of white and no funds to run out and get something new. I’m really going to have to brain storm! :)

Alt looks incredibly cool and fun and stylish. It seems that the attendees are designers who also write (is that true?). If so, it makes me wonder if there’s something equally wonderful out there for writers who aren’t designers but want to be more creative with their blogs.

Sorry–back to the topic: I would love to wear white, winter or otherwise, all year long. I think having a theme can be great fun if there’s enough time to put something together.

While your at Alt I hope to be getting my blog up and running! Having coffee dates and late night drinks with friends to vet my ideas. Not Alt, but will do (for now!) perhaps in honor I need to do a white night….Can’t wait to see the pics and read all the posts….

When I was in college a fraternity had a “Dress to Kill” theme party and all the girls in my sorority were deciding on evening gowns, heels, and what jewels to wear to let them look their best. When all the girls left for the party, my friend and I put on pinstriped pants, snappy white shirts with bowties and vests, fedoras and carried toy machine guns a la 1920′s. It was the smile of the night.
