As you work your way down the list of delicious steaks on the menu at Brand Steakhouse you are sure to notice the monster at the bottom, appropriately named ‘The Steak For Six” – it is just that, 120oz of beef, you’ll also notice the asterisk directing you to the line below… there’s a catch… A homage to the roadhouse diners and steakhouses of the past ‘The Steak for Six’ carries a disclaimer, if one person can eat the entire steak by themselves its on the house.

Many have tried, and only a few (including professional eaters) have succeeded, the steak for six challenge was a clear choice to be featured on Food Network’s popular program ‘Outrageous Food’. Thursday at Brand Steakhouse inside the Monte Carlo the rules were tweaked slightly as ‘Outrageous Food’ host Tom Pizzica led two teams of four in a head-to-head battle, the first team to devour the monstrous steak would be declared the winner.

The restaurant was packed as the teams took their seats, a twist to the challenge – it would be men versus women, a battle of the sexes thrown in to see who would claim the ultimate bragging rights. The men, all Light Group resident DJs were the favorites going into the contest, but when the bone was all that was left on the plate it was the women who claimed the title, narrowly edging the men out at the last minute in a fury of steak eating that had onlookers eyes wide in disbelief.

“Those girls can eat,” remarked DJ Eric Forbes, a competitor on the men’s team, “I couldn’t believe it, they’re half our size.”

Indeed the ladies did put on an amazing show of speedy steak consumption, but all 8 competitors were moving considerably slower than they were prior to the challenge. Do the math, that’s seven and a half pounds of meat on the plate, are you up to the challenge? Bragging rights are on the line, and a full belly of delicious wood-fire grilled steak is the reward.

Tune into ‘Outrageous Food’ on The Food Network every Fridays at 10pm/9pm Central.
