Science Olympiad is thrilled to welcome its founding sponsor, Army ROTC, back into the fold! From 1985 to 1989, Army ROTC helped Science Olympiad become a national organization. Now, we've come together to support students who are interested in STEM careers through officer training. This spring, Army ROTC visited twelve midwestern State Science Olympiad Tournaments and arrived at the 2011 National Tournament at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, bringing state-of-the-art exhibits for the Friday expo at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery and awarding $1,000 scholarships for the gold medal winners of the Division C Towers event. Many participants have filled out Alumni Surveys and told us that Science Olympiad inspired their Army career; please let us know if you have a story to share! For inspiration, see Army Strong Stories. On May 6, Dr. Gerard Putz, (Lt. Col. US Army, retired), gave a talk entitled "Developing Future STEM Leaders: Science Olympiad & Army ROTC" at the STEM Symposium in Indianapolis, IN, sponsored by the 7th Brigade and in conjunction with the Emerging Tech Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
