ART Contractor Wins Highest Award for Safety
May 24, 2011 -- Congratulations to Forsythe Transportation, the contractor who operates ART, on winning the 2011 American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Gold Bus Safety Award in the bus contractor category. The award was presented at the 2011 APTA Bus and Paratransit Conference on May 22 in Memphis, Tennessee.
In July 2009, Forsythe instituted a Customer Service and Safety Program that resulted in a drastic drop in safety complaints for ART. Due to the program safety complaints dropped from 58% from 2009 to 2010 and the overall complaint rate dropped 55%.
“This award highlights the success of our public-private partnership with Forsythe Transportation in providing high-quality, safe, and friendly ART transit services for the residents of Arlington County,” said Dennis Leach, Arlington County transportation director. “I applaud the efforts of Forsythe Transportation’s team of bus operators, maintenance technicians, and local management who have raised the bar for safety and quality of service.”
The APTA Bus Safety and Security Awards program recognizes transportation systems for their commitment to improving safety through the implementation of programs or projects that have achieved documented success in addressing specific safety or security program areas. Award recipients demonstrate an exemplary achievement in development and implementation of educational, training, and supportive programs that create and sustain a culture of safety within the workplace and result in extraordinary service.
